Weddings

Your wedding should feel exactly like you imagined it.

The right song at the right moment. An itinerary that flows without you having to chase anyone. A dance floor that fills up - and stays full. Not because things fell into place on the night.

Because of how I prepared.

01 The Dilemma Every Couple Faces

It's your day. But you want everyone to enjoy it with you.

Your guest list might not share the same musical taste - or anything else, maybe! From your closest people to distant relatives, friends' plus-ones you've never met, colleagues who made the trip - weddings are some of the most diverse rooms you'll ever host.

It's hard. I know. I've been watching couples navigate this stress since 2012.

The good news: you don't have to. That's what I'm here for.

02 How I Work

"You know how good he is just by filling out his questionnaire - which is very detailed for him to cater the best for our guests. For a super diverse crowd, he managed to pull it off."

Sennjiv & Su Ann - Wedding · Feb 2026

By the time I arrive on the day, I already know your room.

Every couple I work with fills in a detailed music questionnaire before we speak. Not a generic 'what's your favorite song' form - a real breakdown of your guest demographics, age groups, cultural mix, must-plays, absolute no-plays, and the tracks that actually mean something to you.

I use that information to build a set that works for everyone in the room. I build around your people, not just your playlist.

03 More Than Just Music

"Beyond the music - he took the time to truly understand our expectations, our vibe, and get to know us personally."

Zi Shan - Wedding · Jan 2026

The right song at the wrong moment is still the wrong song.

After 14 years and hundreds of weddings, I've learned that timing is everything. Itineraries are part of my workflow. I coordinate with your vendors, follow the run-of-show, and flag things - speaker placement, volume levels, lighting shifts, timing gaps - before they become problems on the night.

I've played in all kinds of ballrooms across KL and the Klang Valley, but nothing beats the right vibes with an amazing environment away from home.

Music is a big part of weddings. But the devil is in the details, and I'm your angel, haha.

04 On the Night Itself

You'll have enough on your plate. The music isn't one of them.

I arrive early - usually among the first vendors on-site. I set up, soundcheck, and make sure everything is right before your first guests walk in. When the night runs long, when a song needs to be swapped last minute - I handle it. Quietly. Without pulling you away from your guests.

"His professionalism and punctuality were unmatched. He arrived early, coordinated flawlessly with our vendors, and ensured every timeline transition was smooth."

Audrey Sim - Wedding · Mar 2025

Need Sound and Lighting Too?

For events <100 pax, I can offer my own sound and lighting rig - same hands that planned your playlist packed the car. For larger/complex events, I run Mochi Entertainment, an AV rental company that provides value-oriented packages for events of all sizes.

05 What Couples Say

From the people who were in the room.

"Starting with chill cocktails all the way to an unplanned impromptu dance floor jam - all of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the night."

Lim Qian & Chiew Wei - Mar 2026

"Guests are still talking about the music seven days after the wedding."

Marcus Soosai - Apr 2024

"Being able to give him the profile we were going for and carte blanche to curate a mix saved us so much."

06 Common Questions

Common questions couples ask me.

How much does a wedding DJ cost in Kuala Lumpur?

A wedding DJ service with Playmochi runs RM1,500 to RM2,500 for 4-6 hours. The total depends on guest count, venue, and how much dancefloor-DJing is needed. Dinner vibing is easy, making people dance is hard work!

If you need sound and lighting, the all-in packages start at RM2,000 for up to 40 guests, RM3,000 for up to 100, and RM4,250 for a reception that wants a dance floor at the end. Beyond that, a wedding that needs full production moves to a bigger rig coordinated through Mochi Entertainment, quoted to the event rather than off a list.

Keep in mind, those are starting points, not fixed quotes. The number of people you have at a wedding affects how much stuff we'll need for a great time. I have been DJing around the Klang Valley since 2012, across more than 578 events, and a number means very little until I know your date, venue and rough guest count. Tell me those three and you will get a straight figure.

Does Playmochi provide sound and lighting for a wedding?

Yes. For weddings up to around 100 guests I can supply sound and atmosphere lighting myself, either bundled into a 3-in-1 package or quoted alongside the DJ work.

Past 100 guests, or for any large outdoor wedding, the job moves to a professional PA system through Mochi Entertainment, my AV rental and production arm. Same person planning it, significantly bigger rig.

As a guide, sound and lighting runs RM700 to RM2,500 for up to 50 guests, RM1,250 to RM3,500 for 50 to 100, and RM2,000 to RM5,000 above that. The final figure depends on your venue, the setup, and whether you want atmosphere or full production.

Atmosphere lighting is included in most of the personal inventory bundles. Full production lighting is handled through Mochi Entertainment regardless of guest count.

How far in advance should I book a wedding DJ?

Anywhere from a year out to a week before. I have taken both, and both went well.

More time is genuinely better, but not for the reason most people assume. A standard wedding brief I can build from experience, and after 578 events since 2012 that experience runs deep. What extra time really buys you is the bespoke stuff.

One recent wedding was Harry Potter themed. That took a night of listening to get right, and it meant I could time Hedwig's Theme to land exactly as dinner was served. The bride is a serious Potter fan. Her reaction told me the effort was worth it.

So if your wedding has a theme, a particular cultural flow, or a moment you want hit precisely, give me as much notice as you can. If it is a straightforward reception and your date is close, ask anyway. The answer is often yes.

Do you play Malay, Chinese and Indian wedding music?

Yes, but somewhat limited. I have a small library of classics and popular music from many cultures, but usually a playlist of your favorites or must-have music from your culture helps me prepare for your event.

I'm an open-format DJ who is used to mixing all kinds of genres and vibes. My DJ senses will be able to tell when a song I'm unfamiliar with may work for any given dancefloor.

In practice that means I can play a solid half hour of Bhangra, or a stretch of old-school Chinese strings, and it will land.

I also draw a line at the ceremony itself. I am in charge of the music, not the cultural program. If your wedding needs someone who knows a particular tradition properly, I will tell you to hire that person rather than bluff it. Most weddings do not need that, and for those I am a good all-rounder who reads the room.

Do you take song requests from guests?

Yes, always. Requests from the couple, a VIP or a close friend usually get played next or close to it, as long as they fit where the night is. The choice to play a request from anyone else (like a random aunty) is up to me though.

The thing that makes a request land is context. Tell me why it matters and roughly when, and I can place it properly. A song that means something to two people in the room can be the moment of the night if it drops at the right time, or just another track if it does not.

If it's in my library, easy. If not, I can pull it from streaming, which is less clean but does the job. In practice it is rare that a request genuinely does not work. Weddings are forgiving that way.

What happens if you fall sick or get double-booked?

Double bookings essentially do not happen. The calendar is the one thing I am strict about.

Illness is the real risk, and the answer is that you hear it from me directly and early, not on the day. I message you as soon as I know, and I offer a replacement from the DJs I actually work with rather than whoever happens to be free.

If a substitute does go in, they get everything: your itinerary, your must-plays, your do-not-plays, and the notes from every conversation we have had. The point is that your event runs to your plan, not to someone else's default set.

Mochi Entertainment now works with a small group of other DJs, which makes that handover cleaner than it used to be.
